Charging Habits
Avoid charging to 100% regularly if your charger has a limiter. 80% for daily use, 100% for long rides extends overall pack lifespan. Never let the battery fully drain to 0% repeatedly.
Storage Temperature
Store and charge your battery at room temperature (60–75°F). Extreme cold reduces capacity temporarily; extreme heat degrades cells permanently. Don’t leave it in a hot car.
Inspect Regularly
Check the battery casing for cracks, swelling, or corrosion on the contacts. A swollen battery is a fire risk — stop using it immediately and contact the manufacturer.
Long-Term Storage

Weekly basics (tires, brakes, chain), monthly cleaning and inspection, and a seasonal deep check. Heavy riders or those riding in harsh weather should clean the drivetrain more frequently — grit and wet conditions accelerate wear significantly.
Ignoring tire pressure. Low PSI reduces range, increases rolling resistance, raises the risk of pinch flats, and makes handling unpredictable. Check it weekly — it takes 60 seconds and costs nothing.
Avoid high-pressure spraying around bearings, the motor, and electrical connectors — water intrusion can cause corrosion and damage over time. Use a damp cloth, soft brush, and gentle cleaner instead. A light rinse from a low-pressure hose is usually fine if you avoid sensitive areas.
Use a chain wear indicator tool — they cost about $8 and are the most valuable $8 you’ll spend on bike maintenance. Replace the chain at 0.5–0.75% stretch to preserve the cassette. Letting it reach 1%+ wear means replacing the chain and cassette together, which costs significantly more.
Checking pad wear and adjusting cable tension on mechanical disc brakes is beginner-friendly. Bleeding hydraulic disc brakes requires specific fluid, tools, and technique — if you haven’t done it before, a bike shop visit is worth it. Brakes are safety-critical; don’t guess.
Most quality e-bike batteries are rated for 500–1,000 charge cycles before capacity drops noticeably.
